SENIOR DESIGNER bob@csa-architects.com Robert G. Currie is the founding principal of Currie Sowards Aguila Architects located since its 1969 inception in Delray Beach, Florida. He received a Master in Architecture from Harvard University, Graduate School of Design in 1965 and a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Minnesota in 1962. Mr. Currie is certified as an architectural professional by NCARB and has been registered in the states of Florida, Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, South Carolina and Virginia. Over the course of his professional career, Mr. Currie has planned and designed virtually every project type, including municipal, public assembly, residential, commercial office, hospitality and historical restoration facilities, in both the United States and abroad. His knowledge of international design and construction was developed through projects in the Middle East, Australia, Central America, China and the United Kingdom. In addition, he taught at the University of Sydney (Australia), the University of Miami (Florida) and Florida Atlantic University. With over fifty design awards to his credit, Mr. Currie is the firm's principal designer and responsible for projects through the design development phase. In 1990, he received the American Institute of Architects Palm Beach Chapter Award of Honor for Design for his contributions to architectural design. The firm was honored by the Florida Association of AIA as the Firm of the Year 2000. In 2002, Mr. Currie received the prestigious Gold Medal Award from the Palm Beach Chapter of the AIA in recognition of his contributions to the architectural profession. In 2005, he received the President's Award for Architect of the Year, also from the Palm Beach Chapter of the AIA, for his special contributions to the profession through excellence in design, service to the chapter and in raising public awareness of the role of architecture in the community. In 2008, he was elevated to Fellow by the American Institute of Architects. |

SENIOR ARCHITECT jess@csa-architects.com Jess Sowards joined the firm in the fall of 1987 following his graduation with a Bachelors of Architecture from the University of Kentucky. Having worked at a number of architectural firms while completing his formal education, Mr. Sowards gained a good base from which to build on making him a valuable member of the Currie Sowards Aguila Architects design team. Mr. Sowards advanced quickly in the firm taking in many challenges which included the design and reconstruction of a number of hotels, shopping centers and fire stations. In 1989, Jess became a registered architect in the state of Florida and received his certification from the National Council of Architectural Registration Board (NCARB). Having developed his skills to where he managed multiple projects from conceptual design through occupancy, Mr. Sowards was promoted to the position of Associate Architect with the firm in 1991 and Principal in 2000. Community involvement is an integral part of his commitment to architecture and good design. He has participated in numerous design charrettes including Old School Square, Village of Key Biscayne, Pineapple Grove Main Street and others. Mr. Sowards has been a member of the City of Delray Beach Board of Adjustment, City of Delray Beach Planning and Zoning Board (currently serving as the chairman), City of Delray Beach Site Plan Review and Appearance Board, the Pineapple Grove Main Street Design Committee and is immediate past President of the Palm Beach Chapter of the Florida American Institute of Architects. Jess was honored with the Hillard T. Smith Award in 2004 by the Palm Beach Chapter of the AIA for his active leadership in community activity and service which was of direct benefit to the community. As Senior Architect, Mr. Sowards remains involved with the design of nearly all projects in the firm. His personal philosophy mimics that of the firm in that design relates to the vernacular of the region and the architect shall be sensitive to the economics of the project. |

QUALITY ASSURANCE & CONSTRUCTION ADMINISTRATION MANAGER jose@csa-architects.com José N. Aguila began with Currie Sowards Aguila Architects in early 1976 as a beginning draftsman. Over the next two years as his skills developed, he was encouraged by Robert Currie to pursue his degree in architecture. In 1978, Mr. Aguila began his course of studies at the newly created School of Architecture at Florida A & M University (FAMU), graduating in 1981 with a Bachelor's of Science in Architectural Studies. In July 1981, Mr. Aguila continued honing his skills with other architectural firms in South Florida, eventually returning to Currie Sowards Aguila Architects in 1983. Over the next five years or so, Mr. Aguila became involved in numerous community organizations, including the City of Boynton Beach Building Board of Adjustment and Appeals, the Planning and Zoning Board and the Community Redevelopment Agency. Mr. Aguila went back to FAMU, where he earned his Bachelor's of Architecture degree in 1988 and then returned back to work and his community activities. In 1989, Mr. Aguila became the first statewide Associate Director for the Florida Association of the American Institute of Architects. In 1991, he was elected as a member of the Boynton Beach City Commission and was appointed Vice Mayor in 1993-1994. From 1993-1998, Mr. Aguila was employed as Construction Manager for the City of Delray Beach and was responsible for overseeing the implementation of over 50 million dollars' worth of capital improvement projects for the City. At the same time, he continued his community involvement with the City of Boynton Beach as a member of the Planning and Development Board. Returning to Currie Sowards Aguila Architects in 1998, he became a principal in the firm in 1999. |
